28th February 2019

Much has been said about data mining and predictive analytics to influence the outcomes of national elections and shape our opinions. This doesn’t reflect the positive possibilities of predictive analytics to help society identify and protect the vulnerable amongst us. God Himself categorises people whilst at the same time knowing our individual uniqueness.

This talk will present thought-provoking scenarios of how advanced analytics are being used to bring good outcomes for society including challenging bias in the police, joining up the health and social care sectors and reducing demand in children’s services. We will discuss both the legal and the ethical limitations of using public sector data and how to balance public privacy with the need to protect vulnerable individuals.

The presentation will be introduced by Dr. Kim Stansfield, Associate Professor in Transformational Systems, at Warwick University.  It is for anyone aged 16 and over, and may be of particular interest to anyone studying or interested in social science, psychology, criminology, education and teaching, ICT, coding, analytics, management, ethics, health, law in terms of cyber security, and social inequality and vulnerable people.  There will be the opportunity for questions, and informal discussion afterwards too.

There is no charge for this event.  To register your interest, sign up on our Facebook page, Re:Think Worcester, or just come along on the evening.  Any questions?  Please call 01905 726662.
